A Collier-area student and teacher have won awards from Gov. Rick Scott for their work celebrating 2013 Hispanic Heritage Month.
Madison Hopkins, a Marco Island Charter Middle School student, will receive a four-year Florida College Plan scholarship for her student essay. Lucie Rodriguez, a Manatee Middle School developmental reading teacher, also won the Excellence in Education award. Rodriguez was nominated by students and colleagues and will receive $1,500.
